We
restored the
upstairs bedroom a few years ago. It used to be a hayloft
and, long before that, a silkworm room. The small fireplaces which you can
see in the corners were used to keep the room warm in winter (They are no longer
used - heating if needed is electric).
The
bed is a good quality modern king-sized divan-type bed. The fine ornate
headboard is restored side-piece from an antique bed. People have
got longer since it was made!
The wardrobe you see is a fine piece of ancient country
furniture, and my next project but ten is to restore it to some earlier glory.
The
bedroom gives wonderful views over the meadow, with another window opposite
making the room airy even in the heat of the summer. The furniture is
completed with a good old chest of drawers and two little pot-cupboards adapted
as bedside tables with 1920's spelter bird-motif reading lights.
